Spectral Discrimination Thresholds Comparing Audio and Haptics
نویسندگان
چکیده
Previous studies have been carried out concerning the ability of individuals with normal hearing to discriminate auditory stimuli which have the same fundamental frequency but different spectral content [5]. This study concerns to what extent is it possible to perform the same differentiation considering vibratory tactile stimuli. Being aurally able to distinguish between an A3 note played by a flute and the same note played by a clarinet, the question posed is whether or not it is possible to observe a similar ability in terms of vibratory tactile stimulations. In trying to address these questions, a research project is currently ongoing consisting of a series of perceptual tests to be carried out in an attempt to compare discrimination thresholds in terms of spectral differences between auditory and vibratory tactile stimulations. Spectral Discrimination Thresholds Comparing Audio and Haptics for Complex Stimuli
Individuals with normal hearing are generally able to discriminate auditory stimuli that have the same fundamental frequency but different spectral content. This study concerns to what extent it is possible to perform the same differentiation considering vibratory tactile stimuli. Three perceptual experiments have been carried out in an attempt to compare discrimination thresholds in terms of s...

Discrimination thresholds for temporal synchrony in auditory-visual sentence materials were obtained on a group of normal-hearing subjects. Thresholds were determined using an adaptive tracking procedure which controlled the degree of audio delay, both positive and negative in separate tracks, relative to a video image of a female speaker. Four different auditory filter conditions, as well as a...
متن کاملDeactivating stimulation sites based on low-rate thresholds improves spectral ripple and speech reception thresholds in cochlear implant users.
The study examined whether the benefit of deactivating stimulation sites estimated to have broad neural excitation was attributed to improved spectral resolution in cochlear implant users. The subjects' spatial neural excitation pattern was estimated by measuring low-rate detection thresholds across the array [see Zhou (2016). PLoS One 11, e0165476]. Spectral resolution, as assessed by spectral...

Joint Fourier transform correlation is an analog optical signal processing technique capable of comparing several two-dimensional images. We show that selected spectral domain binary thresholds, obtained through simulation, signiicantly improve the performance of an optical implementation of the joint transform correlator. In doing so we establish empirically the existence of well deened optima...
متن کاملA psychophysical evaluation of spectral enhancement.
Listeners with sensorineural hearing loss have well-documented elevated hearing thresholds; reduced auditory dynamic ranges; and reduced spectral (or frequency) resolution that may reduce speech intelligibility, especially in the presence of competing sounds. Amplification and amplitude compression partially compensate for elevated thresholds and reduced dynamic ranges but do not remediate the ...
